RoboCup as a Means to Research, Education, and Dissemination

Robotic soccer, and RoboCup in particular, has been a research topic for almost a decade, with an upsurge during the last few years. RoboCup is usually viewed as being a means to research, education, and dissemination. We analyse RoboCup in each of these perspectives. Firstly, we show that RoboCup is a good research challenge. Second, we conclude that RoboCup is not always useful in education. Third, we state that RoboCup is in general unsuccessful in disseminating the results of the research to the public.
